Train-the-Trainers Protocol
Practitioners must demonstrate substantial proficiency to be eligible to be trained as a trainer. Substantial proficiency requires that the following conditions be met:
1. Comprehensive clinical training and supervision in group facilitation from an Education & Treatment Alternatives, Inc. (ETA) master trainers.
a. Participation in an initial (2 or 3-day) clinical training.
b. Participation in a booster (1-day) clinical training.
c. Participation in consultation phone calls from an ETA, Inc. master trainer.
d. Submittal of completed fidelity tools.
e. Submittal of a minimum of two videotapes for review by ETA, Inc. master trainers.
2. Experience leading or co-leading groups.
a. Lead (or co-lead) a minimum of 72 groups, with at least 12 groups in each component (skillstreaming, anger control training, and moral reasoning), in a 12-month period.
3. Demonstrated model adherence based on videotape ratings completed by ETA, Inc master trainers.
a. Achieves a rating of “competency” (2 or higher on a 0-3 scale) on each item of the Trainer Competence Rating Scale on a minimum of one videotape submitted for review in the most recent 12-month period.
The training-trainers course consists of training, supervision and monitoring intended to support proficiency as a trainer. Course components are as follows:
1. Completion of an initial (2-day) training-trainers training
2. Conducting an on-site training within the agency, to occur within 6 months of the training-trainers training. This training may include up to but not more 8 trainees.
3. Submit videotaped segments of the initial 3-day clinical training, 1-hour corresponding to each component (skillstreaming, anger control training, moral reasoning), for a total of 3 hours, for review by ETA, Inc. master trainers.
4. Participation in consultation phone calls with ETA, Inc. master.
5. Submit 1 videotape of each of their initial cohort of trainees leading (co-leading) an group to ETA, Inc. master trainers for review.
a. Trainers will be recognized as proficient when 90% of a cohort of their trained practitioners (not less than 2 or more than 8 practitioners) demonstrate model adherence (after a course of training and supervision), based on review of videotapes submitted by the trainees.
